School Pictures & Parent/Teacher Conferences
This is just a friendly reminder that we have some important dates approaching. School pictures will be taken this Friday, September 17. If you plan on ordering pictures, you will need to send in money on that day. Parent/teacher conferences will be held next week on Tuesday, September 21 and Thursday, September 23 from 4:00-7:00 P.M. I sent a form home today so that you can request the day that works best for you. I hope to see all of you next week!

Week 3
We began with our first chapter book, Freckle Juice. It is about a boy named Andrew who wants freckles so badly that he is willing to spend five weeks of his allowance to buy a secret recipe that will help him to gain freckles. If your child hasn't yet told you about this book, ask him or her why Andrew wants the freckles. It's definitely a unique answer!
We also completed our first week of Word Sorts (spelling). The students manipulated and studied the words in class, and hopefully they did the same at home each night. Since this coming week is a short week, we will utilize the same words instead of giving out new lists of words. The goal is to see and hear the patterns that are found in the words and to make connections with other words that follow those patterns.
Students did several writing activities this week. They wrote about their favorite foods in their journals. They began creating stories based upon how their characters would solve problems they have at school. Finally, they wrote many PDMs (Positive Daily Messages) to their classmates and placed them in their mailboxes.
This upcoming week is Beat Grove Week. The schedule is as follows:
Tuesday, Sep. 7 - Camo Day
Wednesday, Sep. 8 - Nerd Day
Thursday, Sep. 9 - Hippy Day
Friday, Sep. 10 - Black and Gold Day
Also, be aware that school pictures will be taken on September 17.
I would like to give you a heads-up concerning Halloween this year for all third graders. The third grade team and Mrs. Holland have made the decision to alter our usual procedure. Halloween is on Sunday this year, so we will have our party on Friday, October 29 beginning at 1:30. Rather than wearing costumes to school, third graders will be allowed to change into their costumes for the party and wear them the rest of the day. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me, Mrs. Holland, or any of the third grade teachers.
I hope you continue to enjoy the remainder of your Labor Day holiday. I look forward to seeing all of my students tomorrow morning!
Respectfully,
Mrs. Scrivener
